PRINTS INFO

What is a giclee?

Pronounced zjee-CLAY. A giclee is a high quality print on canvas, but not just any print on canvas qualifies as a giclee. A giclee must meet the highest standards for resolution and archival quality. Our giclees are printed on archival canvases and papers with pigment-based inks. These two (plus a UV coating on the canvases) ensure the giclee will not even begin to fade for at least 100 years.

How do you turn originals into prints?

We use a scanner that maps the surface of the originals to create the most life-like copy currently possible of the original art. This means all the subtle texture from brushstrokes is picked up and rendered at a resolution higher than the human eye can detect. The printing process is also highly controlled (see What is a giclee?).

What kind of canvas is used for prints on canvas?

Our prints on canvas are completed on a poly/cotton blend that passes the 100 year test by the Fine Art Trade Guild. The canvas weave is smooth enough for accurate reproduction of originals, yet still textured enough to retain the hand-made feel that everyone loves about canvas.

What kind of paper is used for prints on paper?

Our prints on paper are completed using the same exact giclee technology as our prints on canvas. The paper is a heavyweight, archival cotton rag paper for a subtle, rich texture. The paper and ink are specifically chosen for their gorgeous appearance and archival quality.

How many prints of each painting will you do?

It depends on each painting. ALL of our prints are limited, but some are more rare. See each product page for more information.

FRAMING & STRETCHING INFO

What about framing?

We know that many of our customers would love to frame their paintings and prints. We’re working to secure a couple great options. In the meantime we will send recommendations after purchase to a site with reasonably priced, high-quality frames. These are all hand-made in America and are offered in a range of profiles and finishes.

What is a “gallery wrap” print?

On a gallery wrap painting or giclee, the image wraps around the sides of the stretcher bars and onto the back. The fasteners that secure the canvas are on the back, so the painting can be hung without a frame. The stretcher bars (what the canvas is attached to) are deeper, so the painting has a nice, thick look to it when hanging on the wall. It’s common for galleries to show works without frames—hence the name gallery wrap.

What is a “to frame” print?

This is for buyers who know they will frame their giclees. The printed image stops at the outside edges, and the canvas is attached on the sides with fasteners. The stretcher bars are thinner than the ones we use for gallery wrap, so that the print does not protrude from the back of the frame.

Are the original charcoal drawings framed?

For now, our original charcoal drawings are framed and shipped with a simple black frame with white mat, but reference each item to confirm.

SHIPPING INFO

What is the shipping policy?

Once your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email letting you know that our fulfillment team has received your order. Once your order is fulfilled, you will receive an email notification with your tracking information. Shipping fees are non-refundable in the case of returns.

How much is shipping?

Shipping varies greatly, depending largely on the size of the painting or print. If you are looking to save on shipping, look into our self-stretch option. However, this option will take on average 45 minutes to have the print ready to hang.

When will I get my print?

Most of our prints are made-to-order, so you can expect 2 weeks before your print is mailed. Each canvas print must go through a process of printing, drying, UV sealing, drying, hand-signing/numbering, stretching, and packaging. Paper prints don’t have quite as many steps and are usually shipped a bit quicker. Every part of the process is handled by hand, so it takes time.

We will send tracking information as soon as it’s available.

Do you do bulk orders?

Yes! If you have a large order, we can work with shipping to get an economical but safe way to ship all your works. We’re working to make this easy and direct for every order, whether its 2 or 200.

Do you ship overseas?

At the moment, we do not. We only ship to continental US but are hoping to offer international shipping very soon. How are the paper prints shipped?

Framed paper prints will be shipped in a box. Unframed paper prints are shipped in a protective sleeve and will need to be framed by the customer to be properly displayed.

Canvas prints are packed with padding in boxes to ensure easy, safe travel.
